This month features my friend Camylle:
Tell me a little bit about yourself? How did you meet Bree?
I am a lover of all things art, feminine and musical. I graduated as a Studio Art major with an emphasis in painting. Some people have described me as a feminist artist from my expression of female aesthetics and African culture. I met Bree in college at CSU Dominguez Hills through the association of mutual friends. I knew she would be a good friend to myself as well to many through her intelligence and good vibes towards others.
I used to have an Instagram a long time ago with random pictures but then I deleted it to focus more on my paintings. I started it again because I wanted to show my journey through the final year as an student to inspire other artists that want to see what it’s like to be a trained artist. Whether my followers or viewers want to pursue college as an art major or simply see my work, I welcome all.
What is the main focus of your IG account?
The main focus of my account is to show my journey as an at student. Now that I have graduated, my Instagram will now focus on the creative process of new paintings as well as invite local art lovers to art shows, exhibits or other events that I will participate in. My Instagram account will also be a link to my portfolio website that will be created soon.
What words of encouragement would you give others who may want to showcase their artwork via social networks?
The advice I would give other artists is to show the work as if you were the viewer. If you were someone else looking at your art page, what would they like to see? What can they learn about you or your art? Also, do not hide behind your Instagram page. If possible, be open to sharing your work publicly in the real world by communicating with galleries about your portfolio. Be professional and do not worry about people “stealing” your work online. If it worries you, take a picture of you work with you in it, from an angel, with your name as a watermark across it, a low resolution or a combination of any of these.
What are your top 3 favorite art-based IG accounts that you follow?
