When Life Gives You Lemons … Make a Lemon Ice Box Pie!

I’m laughing to myself at this silly title that I just created for this post (because I reallyyyy want to call my mommy and ask her to make me a pie lol), but that’s honestly what this month has been like – a little bit sour. There have been highs and lows for the month of August and I figured out the issue:

I HAVEN’T JOURNALED IN ALMOST 4 MONTHS!

Gratitude

Life is funny. God definitely has a sense of humor because we go through countless trials, tribulations, successes, failures – all of which is part of His greater plan.

Yesterday the Devil tried to get me – attacking my psyche and filling it with nonsense. Have you ever IG stalked someone’s life? Lol I know it sounds crazy, but not necessarily stalked in the crazy sense rather you scrolled through all their pictures and looked at how beautiful their life has been portrayed to the world. Well I did that and ultimately felt as if the goals I have been striving for seemed minute in the grand scheme of things. This person was living the life I wanted, without even having a degree in hand. In no way am I criticizing people who didn’t go to college, or haven’t attained their degrees yet … but it can be discouraging sometimes when someone seems like (keyword: seems) they instantly got it – and I (you, me and the rest of the world) worked/ are working hard to even gain a little piece of it. In this I automatically thought about a line from one of my favorite songs by Tyrese’s, “Walk…A Poem”. I literally listen to this poem every morning before I start my day. This line summed up everything and brought me back to reality:

Give A Little PUSH!

There are times when even though you constantly tell yourself positive affirmations – you STILL get overwhelmed, impatient, discouraged, stressed, the whole nine! Well … its buckle down time as the end of the school year vastly approaches. Stress is high, sleep is nonexistent, there’s coffee (for me it’s tea), study guides, final projects and papers. You find yourself asking the question: What is Life? How’d I get in this predicament? You’re counting down the days, months, or even years you have left until graduation.

You take that much needed 10 minute break from reality and someone texts you and gives a little PUSH. Continue reading “Give A Little PUSH!”

Worthy Of

I was scrolling through my IG timeline, and ran past this amazing quote, that I have here as the default picture. Often time as a woman, my friends and I always talk about our worth. We talk about how our future Kings, will understand what the word RESPECT actually means, and will treat us like the Queens we are. They’ll no longer entertain the peasants (thots, hoes, whatever you want to call them). I find it funny that worth is determined by material attributes nowdays – what brands do you rock, what kind of car you drive, if you have your own place or not. The idea of worth has been misconstrued.

Post-Surgery: I’m A Soldier (pronounced – SOULjaa)

It has been approximately three months since I had my fourth and very last open-heart surgery. The last time I had surgery was at ten years old, having to undergo yet another surgery I honestly wasn’t scared because it had become routine for me. I even often refer to the hospital/doctor’s office as my second home. The real issue here was that this time was very different from the rest – reason being was that the times in the past I was a child (either in infancy or elementary years). Yet this time around I was an adult – meaning everyone’s calling me and looking to me for answers. Yes, my mother was still by my side every step of the way, but the ball was entirely in my court now. I scheduled my doctors appoints, pre-ops, post-ops, infusions, x-rays – I did it ALL! It was so weird having to do these things on my mom, because I was used to my mom taking care of everything. This meant I had to really become knowledgeable with specific terminology, instructions, and the way everything worked. Surprisingly, I knew WAY more about my condition and my heart than I gave myself credit for *Pats Self on the Back*

Embracing Change

As a future counselor, I feel as if I get all of my practice on my family and friends. Thursday night, my cousin came to me with a concern about her and her longtime boyfriend of five years. These two are definitely peas in a pod. If you see Mia, there’s Chase and vice versa. Lately, they both have been coming into their own and pretty much have been venturing off and doing things separately. Mia’s worried that they’ll eventually drift apart due to becoming so big on their own, and they won’t need each other anymore.

Weathering The Storms

“Everything happens for a reason, in its time, and in its season …”

Screen Shot 2015-03-03 at 11.04.51 PM

I’m reminded of this phrase, every day of my life. I hear it from my mommy, the Bible, my Pastor, friends – the world! I believe this sentiment to be very true. I believe we all endure storms, on different variations and even magnitudes. It’s all a test, a lesson, or even a blessing that help us into the next phase of our lives.

I recently graduated from college in May 2014, and will soon be coming up on my one-year anniversary into this transition of my life. From May 2014 to the present have been filled with unexpected news that “threw me off course”, financial standstills, the downside of the workforce and the list continues.
